cPanel Email Forwarding

Updated on April 10, 2022

Setting up an email forwarder is simple; follow the instructions below for a step-by-step guide:

1- Login to your cPanel account and search for Forwarders in the top right search bar.

2- Now that you’ve opened the Forwarders page, you have numerous alternatives to pick from:

Managing – Here you can choose whether you want to see all of the forwarders that have been put up for your domains or only those that have been set up for a specific domain.

Add Forwarder – This is where you can make a custom email account forwarder.

Add a Domain Forwarder — This option allows you to forward inbound email to a different domain if an address is incorrect.

3- If you want to forward all incoming emails from a given email account to a specified mailbox, use Add Forwarder. So, if you want all incoming emails for [email protected] to be forwarded to a certain email address, such as [email protected], you can do so by filling in the sections below:

Other options include deleting emails with a bounce-back error delivered to the sender, forwarding to a cPanel system account, piping to a specific program, or simply discarding the emails entirely.

4- A confirmation page will appear once the email forwarder has been correctly set up.

5- If you wish to set up a domain forwarder, the steps are quite similar. Go back to the Forwarders main page and click “Add Domain Forwarder”.

6- You can now select the emails from which domain you wish to forward and the destination domain. In this example, we are setting up a domain forwarder from example.com to example2.com. Click the Add Domain Forwarder once the details are filled in correctly.

Keep in mind that domain forwarders only forward email when the system is unable to send it to a specific address or autoresponder. If an email is sent to, say, [email protected] with the configuration above, the following events will occur:

The email will not be forwarded to example2.com if it is sent to [email protected] or an autoresponder.

If the address or autoresponder for [email protected] does not exist, the email will be routed to [email protected]

7- Return to the Forwarders main page and click the delete button, as seen in the screenshot below, to delete any current forwarders.
