Creating MySQL Users and Databases

Updated on August 20, 2024

Databases make it simple to manage enormous volumes of data through the internet. Many web-based applications, such as online retail stores, content management systems, and bulletin boards, require them.

In this post, we’ll go over the processes for creating a new database and a new user who will be successfully assigned to the database. This is something that is usually required when starting from scratch with an application or script. When possible, we recommend using the Softaculous Auto-Installers, which automate the installation of apps such as Magento, Joomla, and WordPress.

To begin the process, you must first log into your cPanel account. After that, go to the Databases tab and look for the MySQL Database Wizard after you’ve logged in.

Once you’ve gained access to this tool, you’ll need to complete a few steps, the first of which is naming the database. The database name will be prefixed with your cPanel username, for example, cpaneluser db. It is advisable to utilize something descriptive in order to avoid any future confusion. Use something like “wordpress” or “wp” instead of “DB.”

On the net page, you will be asked what your database password and username should be. The database user is the simplest to create, as it uses the same username as the database name. When it comes to the password, you have the option of using the built-in “Password Generator” or simply typing in a password of your own. When you’re happy with your username and password, click the “Create User” button to go to the next page.

You’ll need to assign a user to the database you just established, and most of the time, that user will require all privileges. To do so, choose the checkbox next to the text “All Privileges.” Once you’ve completed this, click the “Next Step” button.

This is the final step, and it indicates you’ve successfully created your database and user for your cPanel account.
